TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA (22NOV2009) - In an extremely competitive bracket including Real So Cal, SC Blues, and SD Surf, the Slammers FC GU16 girls team took first place honors in the Region IV Far West Regional League. The girls achieved this feat in spite of missing two of their National team players, Sarah Cox and Makenzy Doniak, to the US Soccer National team camp. Amazing Story of Overcoming Odds
OAKS POLO FIELDS, CALIFORNIA (22NOV2009) - Slammers FC GU19 Wins League Cup Championship. After playing most of the season with 10 players and no subs the GU19 Slammers FC Silver Elite team were not on anyone's radar to go deep in League Cup. The GU19s snuck into the Round of 32 as a wild card... and then they slowly and systematically defied the odds and proceeded to beat 3 Gold and 1 Premier level team en route to the Finals and the opportunity to face another Premier team and League Cup favorites, the California Stars. After having a first half goal called back the girls went into half 0-0. Two second half goals found the back of the net for the Slammers and the girls who found friendship and fun all season long added another piece of hardware to the crowded Slammers family shelves. Speaking of family... the GU19 team had added players on the sidelines for the final game... their little sisters, the GU10 Silver Elite team cheered all game. It is safe to say a few of the GU19 parents realized how quick the last 8-9 years past after seeing the GU10 team running around playing together on the sidelines. The GU19s approached the Coast Soccer League Cup Championship with the same attitude they approached their season... have fun and play together as a team.

Slammers FC BU19 Win the Premier League Championship for Coast Soccer
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA (07NOV2009) - The BU19 team put themselves on the map as the first Slammers FC boys team to win the prestigious Premier League in Coast Soccer. It is well known southern California is the hot bed for some of the best youth soccer teams in the nation. To win in this league requires beating the best of the best week in and out. This is no simple task. Going up against five Academy teams only added to the challenge. The boys also lead the league in goals with 27 tallies for the season. Coach Walid Khoury who now has Premier League championships on both the boys and girls sides is extremely proud of the effort from his boys. "They worked hard, played like a team, and earned this championship". This is a big statement as to the direction we are taking the boys program at the Slammers. (PHOTOS COMING SOON)
Slammers FC GU12 Win the Gold Bracket with Two Games Remaining in the Season
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA (07NOV2009) - The GU12 team beat West Coast FC today at home and clinched the Gold bracket league championship with two games left to play. Adversaries on the soccer fields... yet off the field joined by a common goal of offering the joys of soccer to the youth of southern California.

The entire Slammers family would like to extend our prayers and support for SC Blues Gu10 player Katie Hawley.
Katie is fighting Stage 3 Neuroblastoma in her liver, adrenal glands, and lymph nodes. In July, what presented as a stomach ache was diagnosed as cancer. Within two weeks of receiving this news, Katie had surgery at LA Children's Hospital, and began a seven-round treatment process of chemotherapy, which will include stem cell chemotherapy.

Mia Hamm
Trainer, Slammers FC The global soccer icon--arguably the most famous women’s soccer player ever--just began her O.C. soccer tenure when she joined the Slammers FC in April as a trainer. However, her overall footprint left on the soccer world obviously
cannot be measured.
Ask just about any little girl who she looks up to soccer-wise, and odds are you'll get a Mia answer, and her total impact on Orange County could, and probably will, be massive. As of today, Hamm helps the Slammers in coaching and mentoring with a focus on the U-14 through U-18 age divisions. Mia Hamm Hamm without question has an extensive résumé. Some highlights include: She was the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002. She scored more international goals in her career than any other player--male or female--in soccer history (158).
At age 19 she was the youngest member in history to win the World Cup. At 15, she was the youngest soccer player to ever play for the national team. Hamm has two Olympic gold medals (1996 and 2004) and she helped the University of North Carolina win four consecutive NCAA women’s championships.
22
Terry Mazura
Slammers FC President. No discussion of OC mega-clubs can be complete without mentioning the Slammers, who also have the luxury of saying Mia Hamm is in their corner as a trainer.
The 30-team OC giant was created by Mazura when the likes of Bernard Towers, Walid and Ziad Khoury, David Northridge and Frank Klopas converged in the mid-90s in the then-Orange Coast United. The club had only as many as nine teams in 1999. Seven years later the Slammers hauled in 17 Cal South State titles.
Mazura has seen massive success wtih his girls' teams and now he and his club shift focus to building up the boys' program. Its new Slammers Youth Academy (for ages 6-8) is a step in that direction, as the club looks to gain even more numbers and success.
4
Bernard Towers
Coast Soccer League President
Towers heads the Coast Soccer League, the one entity that every single OC club and team plays in.
Put simply, the Coast Soccer League is the single thing, other than soccer balls and shin guards, that every player in OC has in common. Make that OC, the Inland Empire, Ventura County and Los Angeles County.
This year the CSL has more than 2,200 teams, more than 80 clubs and more than 35,000 players who will participate in around 18,000 games played on 500 fields. Whew. Every year these games represent the culmination of months upon months of hard work that will reveal how far a team has come.
The 10 weeks of the Coast Soccer League--comprising League Cup and leading into State and National Cup--are the most important weeks of the club soccer year, hands down.
Towers and the Orange-based Coast Soccer League finds a way to bring organization to the vast numbers of players, coaches, teams and parents that otherwise would beg for chaos. Towers & Co. get it done with the help of dedicated soccer people across So Cal, and many volunteers--as many as 2,500 every year.

Walid & Ziad Khoury
Directors of Coaching, Slammers FC
Everyone says it, and it's tough to argue: the Khoury brothers are known as the most recognizable faces found on youth soccer sidelines. Slammers FC is, has been, and will continue to be an OC club powerhouse, due in no small part to the Khourys, as well as club president/founder Terry Mazura (also on this Top 50 list).
The Slammers' girls program today is ranked 4th in the nation by Soccer America, and the club as a whole has been ranked in the Top 10 over the past six years. The Khoury's 30-team OC megaclub was created by Mazura when key OC soccer figures including now-CSL President Bernard Towers and the Khoury brothers converged in the mid-90s in the then-Orange Coast United. The club had only as many as nine teams in 1999. Seven years later the Slammers hauled in 17 Cal South State titles.
Combined, the brothers hold three Nike Coach of the Year awards (2003, 2006, and 2009). Up until 2008, Slammers FC played in six national championships, winning three of them. The club has also seen international success: it won three world titles, four U.S. Club Soccer national championships and three Manchester United Cup titles. On the regional level, Slammers has won 10 Far West Regional championships, 19 Cal South National State Cup titles and more than 40 Surf Cup championships.
The Khourys grew up in Lebanon during its civil war and both played in the Lebanese Premier League. They moved to So Cal in 1984 and played soccer at Orange Coast College. During the 90’s they coached soccer at Corona Del Mar and Newport Harbor high schools. They continue to enjoy success today with many standout players succeeding under their direction in the Gold and Premier levels of the CSL. They've placed numerous players in every major Division-1 conference, and more than 15 of them have participated in the national team system.
The Khourys in 2008 joined the The Pali Blues Soccer Club of the USL W-League as assitant coaches, and guided them to a 12-0 record and the league championship. They even got Mia Hamm to help out as a trainer for the Slammers. Currently, Walid coaches the Slammers' GU-11, GU-14, GU-16, BU-18 teams. Ziad helms the club's GU-13, GU-15, GU-16, GU-18 squads.
