Whitney Engen is the Second Slammer Female Earn a Cap with the Womens National Team
VILA REAL de SAN ANTONIO, Portugal (March 4, 2011) – The US Womens National Team (WNT) beat Norway 2-0 to earn a berth to the championship game of the Algarve Cup held in Portugal. In the 78th minute Whitney Engen, former Slammer, University of North Carolina, and Chicago Red Stars player earned her first career cap. "We are so proud of the continued success Whitney has experienced in soccer and life.", expressed Slammers FC director of coaching, Walid Khoury. This is an amazing achievement as only 194 women ever enjoyed the privilege and opportunity to wear the red, white, and blue for the full US womens national team.
Whitney is the second Slammer female to earn this honor. Danesha Adams earned her first cap against Chinese Taipei Oct. 1, 2006.
